WHAT ARE WE?! EIGHT NATION ARMY!!
(Repeat 3 times for intimidating effect, follow up with 3 hearty roars ala Spartan style!)
(We look like a bunch of shorty's in this one)
That, above is our battle cry, our own unadulterated version of the Haka dance. The 4 Cempaka futsal team, that is. Man, that's what we're in high school for, annual fundraisers like Soccerthon where the pitch (in this case, court) becomes our canvas.
Prior to penning this post, I had a late dinner with just one can of Heine (I'm home alone, brilliant), plopped my plate on the floor beside the laptop and looked up at my bedroom wardrobe/life-size mirror and blimey.. my face was like red. As in Kah Ken-red.. No no no... this can't be happening, I've never gotten red over just a can.. then it struck me, *was under the scorching heat the whole morning till noon la, doink* As quickly as I've panicked, I settled down.
So anyways, futsal. It was tough and harsh, to say the least; tournament's being played with a knock-out system, that means you've only one shot to make it or break it, to the next round, that is. And praise God, we somehow (I wouldn't say 'deservedly' but most of the form 4's would beg to differ) got to the final after 4 gruelling matches. Alas, we went down fighting (very hard) in the final to a younger side.
We lost via conceding a stupendous goal which hasn't the slightest right of standing. Infuriating. Even En. Zol was lamenting about us not swooping the gold which he believed we more than deserved at the least. In all honesty, we were the much better side, creating more clear-cut chances and ratttling the post like, what, twice? And that doesn't include our attempts which flashed across their goalmouth and a snap-shot from Kai Ming which sailed just over the bar.
Yea, tell me about it. But, it's football, which is, after all similar in many ways to life, you win some and you lose (
very undeservingly) some.
And kudos and congrats to you guys who swiped the gold. You guys played very unadventurous soccer; but it somehow, which still baffle the odds, made you guys nick it. Stranger than fiction. Haha.
A foiled attempt at bombarding the opposing goal.
" A given opportunity is a wasted one should it not be used to monkey around." In full flight when required.
Kai Ming bamboozling the (hapless) opposing defenders.
I had my fair share too. Hehe.
Drifting right, swaying left.
And it's..... it's in the back of the net. Schhweeet.
Spot the ball. No prizes for guessing though. Haha.
All in a day's hard work.
Fellas, give yourselves a more than deserved pat on the back; we played out of our skins today; working tirelessly every given minute of every match, playing REAL soccer... Fellas, we played it how it should be played. We kept it real. Beautiful. Just that lady luck wasn't on our side in the final. I can't put into words how proud I am to have captained this team. Altogether now, what are we?! Haha.
Laters.
